Name and position
Frazer Robertson, Digital Engineer.
Role and functions in the project
I am one of the project coordinators in Chevron. Typically the first point of contact and responsible for the generation of WP deliverables and presentation materials to support Chevrons conntribution to SIMAR.
What is the next milestone you are working on?
About to commence reporting templates and site planning for WP6 – Live site testing and validation.
In your opinion, what is the differential value of this project?
There are no commercial remote operated PEC or XRAY tools available on the market to conduct quick, efficient, safe and wide reaching inspection of CUI on piping networks across large industrial facilities - The SIMAR tool could potentially open up this opportunity if successful.
Despite the challenges we are facing with the size and weight of the solution, which will most likely prevent inspection of smaller guage, vertical and/or congested piping networks, SIMAR has the potential to provide a viable solution for larger more accessible piping runs to do quick and robust inspection of CUI across an entire pipe run which is still a very valid use case and would be a welcome additional to any inspectors toolkit on site.
What would you highlight?
Excellent project management from CATEC (as we experienced on previousl projects HYFLIERS and PILOTING).
Novel and unique opportunity to incorporate XRAY and PEC on to a remote inspection unit such as a drone or crawler.
Addition of Augmented reality to view and disseminate results.
